LEROY H. NELSON


LeRoy “Curly” H. Nelson, 82, formerly Waterford, died peacefully on Aug. 27, 2012, at East Troy Manor, with many family members at his side. He was born July 24, 1930, to the late Norman and Helene (Kutz) Nelson in Burlington. He spent his early life in the Burlington and Waterford area.

On June 25, 1974, he married Sally Hasburgh in Madison. Following marriage they lived in Waterford for 19 years, moving to Englewood, Fla., in 1993 where they resided up until the past two years when they moved back to the Village of East Troy.

He was a faithful member of the Community United Methodist Church of Waterford and lived his life as a kind and committed Christian man. He loved attending antique shows and was especially fond of tractors and clocks. He was a collector of many different things. He enjoyed being around people and helping others. Most of all, he valued spending time with his family and friends.

He was the Superintendent of Public Works for the Village of Waterford for almost 25 years.

Survivors include his wife; children, Tom (Nancy) Nelson of Milwaukee, Ken (Sue) Nelson of Burlington, Steve Nelson of Muskego, Norm (Debbie) Nelson of Waterford, Kathy (Clayton) Kruse of Burlington, and Charlotte Rice (fiancé Guy Clementi) of Elkhorn; grandchildren, Aaron (Adrianne) Nelson, Lisa (Justin) Mushel, Justin (Laura) Lindsay, Tom (Megan) Wincek, Jessica Rice, Derek Nelson, Brad Nelson, Elizabeth Nelson, Kelly Crawford, Ryan Crawford; great-grandchildren, Tommy and Althea Wincek, Jacob Nelson, Reese Mushel, Blake, Brennan and Kaitlyn Lindsay; and many other relatives and friends.

He was further preceded in death by his brothers, Norman and R.T.

The family has suggested memorials for Curly, be made to the Community United Methodist Church of Waterford, East Troy Manor or Seasons Hospice.

Visitation is Tuesday, Sept. 4, from 10 a.m. until time of services at 2 p.m. at Community UMC, 455 S. Jefferson St., Waterford. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Waterford. The Rev. John Wulz will officiate.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Revs. Marcus and Ron Christensen and the staff at East Troy Manor, Seasons Hospice, Aaron Nelson and Hannah of Home Helpers, the ladies at CUMC for funeral lunch and Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home of Burlington for their compassionate care.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Rev. John Wulz for his faithful visits and prayers during Curly’s years at East Troy Manor.

    Was good talking to you the other day about your Dad. He was so good to my Mom, unbelieveable…..when my step-dad was so ill w/strokes and Mom had to care for him, the sky was the limit for all your Dad helped her with. He was VERY kind, he even helped dig the grave for my Mom’s little Urn! I can’t say enough…please share with your family a big thank-you for letting him help, I am sure there were times when he was helping my Mom and probably had other things to do. God Bless Him!
