Taking on perennial volleyball powerhouse Westosha Central showed the young Union Grove High School girls volleyball team areas they need to work on in a 25-20, 25-13, 25-13 loss August 30 at home.

“They let their nerves get the best of them,” Bronco coach Sarah Busalacchi said.

The Broncos played well in the opening game but were unable to seal the deal, Busalacchi said.

Overall, Busalacchi indicated her team needs to develop an instinct to go all out in their play, rather than play to a mood.

In this match, Busalacchi noted the play of Ashley Olsen.

“(She) did a really good job,” Busalacchi said.

Although Kylie Wilks led the team with eight kills, Olsen had five kills, and had the best percentage of kills versus attempts.

Savannah Kohlhagen also had five kills.

Rachael Peterson led the team with 14 assists, while Wilks added five digs to her stats.

The loss dropped the Broncos overall mark to 10-2. It was their opening SLC match of the season.

The Bronco girls played at Lake Geneva Badger on Thursday in an SLC match.

On Saturday, Union Grove will play in the Kettle Moraine Lutheran Invitational.

Next week, the girls will be at Burlington on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m. for an SLC matchup.
