Bronco football trying to find stride

While the Union Grove Union High School football team may have started its season 0-3, new head coach Justin Davis is still happy with how his team is adjusting.

“Our team is responding well in the way in which they are treating the learning process,” Davis said. “They are taking the time to improve their football IQ every day and for that I am proud.

“Our mantra is to be better each day than we were the day before.”

The Broncos are coming off a 27-12 loss at home last week to Delavan-Darien, which dropped them to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the Southern Lakes Conference.

“We still have plenty of bright spots,” Davis said. “We will continue to grow as people and football players and these levels of commitment will transfer to our play over time and we will field a competitive team that this community can be proud of.”

Next up for the Broncos is tonight’s game at Wilmot at 7 p.m.

“We know Wilmot is a quality football team that is well coached and very disciplined,” Davis said. “For us to prepare to be successful has less to do with them and more about ourselves.

“We need to learn to be efficient and stop making mistakes and protect our possessions,” he added.

Perhaps most importantly, though, Davis said his team needs to focus on itself – and believe in itself.

“Our kids must believe they can beat anyone,” he said.
