Library program will highlight historic gardens

Marcia Carmichael of Old World Wisconsin will present a program on historic gardens Saturday at the Burlington Public Library.

Marcia Carmichael, historical gardener at Old World Wisconsin and author of “Putting Down Roots: Gardening Insights from Wisconsin’s Early Settlers” will give a presentation on Saturday at the Burlington Public Library.

The program, which is free and open to the public, begins at 1 p.m. at the library, 166 E. Jefferson Street.

Carmichael will share her passion of historical plants and the gardening styles of Wisconsin’s immigrants. Favorite plants, garden tools, food preparation, planting styles and traditions of the early settlers will be explored through pictures and plants.

In addition, the Burlington Area Garden Club will lead walks through the two historical gardens located near the library: the Log Cabin Garden, maintained by Master Gardeners, and the Legacy Garden, maintained by the Burlington Area Garden Club, and located next to the Burlington Historical Society.

The Burlington Historical Society will have the Log Cabin open during this presentation.
