After finishing third in the Janesville Craig regional Sept. 26, the Burlington High School girls golf team saw its season come to an end Monday at the Badger sectional.

After taking second in the Southern Lakes Conference tournament one week earlier, the Demons put together another strong effort at the Janesville Craig regional played at Riverside Golf Course in Janesville.

Burlington carded a team total of 403 to finish behind Milton (329) and Janesville Parker (343).

The top four teams in each regional advance to sectional. The fourth team to advance was Fort Atkinson with a 408.

“To make it to sectionals as a team was really special and I am extremely happy the way the girls played,” head coach Wayne Herrick said.

“Ellen Stang shot her all-time low (a 96) at regionals and tied it at sectionals,” Herrick added.

At regional, Tess Lavieri and Jenn Stevens each carded 101s, while Sarah Eulgen added a 105.

The fifth Demon to compete was Danni Robers (123).

The sectional was played at Grand Geneva Highland Golf Course in Lake Geneva. As a team, the Demons finished seventh out of the eight teams, carding a team total of 404. The top two teams in regional advance to state, plus the top three individual qualifiers on non-qualifying teams.

Stang’s 96 was the lowest Demon score, but that was not sufficient to qualify her for state.

Lavieri added a 101, Stevens a 103 and Robers a 104 to finish off the team total. Eulgen added a 106.

“As a coach, I was very proud how everyone persevered and hung in there to get the best score for their rounds both at regionals and sectionals,” Herrick said.

As a whole, Herrick said the season was a success and the girls had a lot of fun.

Seniors Eulgen, Lavieri and Stevens all concluded their high school careers.
