After a scoreless first half, the Waterford High School boys soccer team put together a strong second half Tuesday and the result was a 3-0 win at Shoreland Lutheran in a non-conference matchup. The win improves the Wolverines season record to 6-13.

“The team played well, especially in the second half,” head coach Rob Blascoe said.

Blascoe said his team put a lot of pressure on Shoreland Lutheran in the second half, getting 11 shots on goal. For the entire game, Waterford outshot Shoreland Lutheran 15 to 2.

Kai Batwinski got the Wolverine boys on the scoreboard in the 53rd minute on an unassisted goal.

“He drove it into the upper 90 from about 30 yards,” Blascoe said. “He’s got a very strong foot.”

Bryan Schuyler, off an assist from Ben Plantz, scored in the 60th minute to make it 2-0. Plantz split the defenders, passed the ball to Schuyler on the left side.

Three minutes later, on a restart from 35-40 yards out, Batwinski lofted the ball into the box and Austin Swigart headed it into the night for the final 3-0 margin.

vs. Badger

In the second game of the Southern Lakes Conference Tournament, Lake Geneva Badger edged the Wolverines 2-1.

“I felt we should have won,” Blascoe said.

With the loss, Waterford ended its SLC season with a 4-5 record, which put the team in fifth place.

Badger took a 1-0 lead in this game on a goal in the 29th minute and it stayed that way into the second half.

In the 49th minute, Austin Swigart scored off an assist from David Zahn to tie the game at 1-1.

Badger got the game-winning goal in the 74th minute when Waterford lost track of one of Badger’s marks and it left one defender on two players.

“We played really well,” Blascoe said.

Waterford ended the regular season with a non-conference game at Kenosha Tremper Thursday.

WIAA Division 1 regional action begins Tuesday, Oct. 9. As of press time, brackets for postseason action had not been finalized.
