HOWARD E. KASTEN


Howard E. Kasten, 72, Crocker, M., formerly of Wisconsin, died unexpectedly at the Phelps County Medical Center, Rolla, Mo.

He was born Aug. 29, 1939, in Lake Villa, Ill., to the late Emil B. and Frances L. (Perry) Kasten.

He had worked as a millwright for American Motors Corp. and Chrysler Corp. in Kenosha, for 25 years retiring in 1999 when he moved to Missouri. He was a member of the interstate racing association, was a sportsman car driver and sprint car racing pit crew member. He also was a collector of John Deere memorabilia as well as having the actual equipment. He enjoyed watching wildlife on his property where he built his own home after he retired.

On July 9, 1960, he married Beverley Mae Everett in Union Grove.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years; son, Ken (Judy) Kasten, Zion, Ill., daughter, Kate (Scott) Kusman, Bristol; grandchildren, Andrea (Matt Burgess) Kusman, Bristol, Marissa Kusman, Bristol, Ashley Bunnell, Springfield, Mo., Nicholas (Lisa) Bunnell, St. Louis, and David (Danielle) Kusman, Watseka, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Nevaeh and Gabe Kusman; sisters, Edna Mae (Richard) Winfield, Richland, Mo., Joanne (Bob) Spenle, Chetek, Frances (Larry) Kunkel, Bristol, Rose (James) Struck, Ashland; dear friend, Jill Spitz, Pleasant Prairie; other relatives and many friends.

Visitation is Thursday, Oct. 20, from 4 p.m. until time of services at 7 p.m., at Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, 1055 Main St. (Route 83). Interment will be private.
