On a cold, windy, rainy night, the Burlington High School boys soccer team saw its season come to an end with a 3-0 loss Tuesday at Mukwonago in the opening round of the WIAA playoffs.

All three of Mukwonago’s goals were scored in the first 10 minutes of the game. After that, head coach Phil Molitor said his team settled down and played very well.

“It ended up being a battle for midfield,” Molitor said, adding that after the first three goals each team had two good chances to score.

With the loss, the Demon boys ended the season at 7-12 overall. Burlington was 5-4 in the Southern Lakes Conference.

The game was also the final high school soccer action for eight BHS seniors. Those included center defenders Cullen Vos and Carson Lois; center midfielders Robert Whitehead, Mark Caringello and Eric Aguirre; wing midfielders Ian Carville and Noah Keown; and goalkeeper Nolan Friend.

“Eric Aguirre had our best chance to score a goal,” Molitor noted.

On Oct. 4, Burlington ended its regular season action at Milwaukee Pius XI. Pius came away with a 4-0 win in a shortened game.

Molitor said that with both of his goalkeepers injured, plus three more injured players, he was down to 13 players. He approached the Pius coach and they agreed to not play the second half.

“It just didn’t make a lot of sense,” Molitor said.
