Facing some of the toughest competition in the state Saturday, the Catholic Central High School volleyball team held its own.

While the Lady ’Toppers dropped both matches in pool play Saturday at the Westosha Central Smash tournament, Catholic Central rebounded by defeating Cedarburg and Indian Trails in the bronze bracket to finish seventh overall.

“It was really nice to see the team play really well in pool play,” said coach MaeMae Oberhofer. “Playing competition of this caliber right before the postseason is a great opportunity for us.”

Catholic Central pushed Waukesha Catholic Memorial to three sets before falling 20-25, 25-23, 15-9, and then lost to Divine Savior Holy Angels – the top team in Division 1 – 25-10, 25-17.

However, once in the bronze bracket, CCHS beat Cedarburg 25-23, 25-18 and dominated Indian Trails 25-9, 25-16.

“Our solid serve receive, aggressive defense and serve kept us in every match,” Oberhofer said.
