Facing a much stronger opponent in their first state tournament appearance, Olivia Leuck and Ali Zeman, Burlington High School’s No. 1 doubles team in girls tennis, fell 6-2, 6-0 in their opening match Thursday at the WIAA State Individual Tennis Championships in Madison.
Leuck and Zeman, both juniors, faced Bailey Knight and Alex Johnson of Hudson in that opening match.
Even in the loss, head coach Rose Dolatowski noted that many of the games were close, with numerous deuces throughout the match.
“I thought they played some of their best tennis of the year,” Dolatowski said. “They played extremely well. They did not appear nervous.”
