A 50-41 loss to Badger and a 48-45 defeat at the hands of Elkhorn were the third and fourth losses in a row for the Union Grove High School girls basketball team.

The Bronco girls now stand at 5-9 overall and 3-5 in the Southern Lakes Conference.

In the loss to Lake Geneva Badger Friday, the Broncos stayed close for one half, but saw Badger pull away in the third quarter.

Lake Geneva led just 10-9 after one quarter and 22-19 at the half, but a 17-7 third-quarter margin by Badger put the Broncos down by 13 going into the final period.

Union Grove had a 15-11 edge in the final eight minutes, but could not overcome the double-digit deficit.

The Badger’s Karina Reeves was simply too much for Union Grove on this night, as she scored 26 points, including 12 of 16 at the foul line.

Overall, Lake Geneva was 20 of 33 from the foul line. Union Grove was just eight of 16.

No Bronco scored in double figures in this game, with Lexi Marsh and Sarah Petrovic each scoring eight.

In the Elkhorn loss Monday, the Broncos trailed 14-10 after one quarter but came back to tie the game at 21-all at the half.

The Elks took a 40-35 lead into the final quarter and held off the Broncos.

The difference in this game came at the free throw line. Both teams shot 14 free throws, but Elkhorn sank 11 and the Broncos just seven.

Becca Maier led Union Grove with 10 points, with Katie Wendorf adding nine.
