It was Senior Night Tuesday at Catholic Central, and the Lady ’Toppers – particular the seniors – delivered in a 47-41 win over Kenosha St. Joseph.

“It was a big win for us tonight,” said coach Jeff Behrens. “We wanted it badly for Ali (Wiemer) and Kelsey (Robers).”

Behrens thanked both seniors for their hard work and contributions to the girls basketball program over four years, but especially this season as they’ve led the young team over bumps.

St. Joe’s, who beat the Lady ’Toppers 62-45 in January in Kenosha, led most of the game by 4-7 points. Trailing 21-14 to open the second half, Wiemer drained a three to open the half. Hannah Uhen then drove the lane and scored to cut the lead to two.

Wiemer then evened the score with an offensive rebound and putback before St. Joe’s hit a three to retake the lead.

Wiemer then found Uhen in the pain and the sophomore forward hit a short jumper to close the gap again. St. Joe’s scored the next five points, but Wiemer and Tori Kempken both hit from long range and pulled CCHS back to within 35-30 entering the fourth.

Catholic Central then went on an 8-0 run to open the final frame, keyed by a three from Kempken. When the run was interrupted, the Lady ’Toppers had a three-point lead with less than four minutes to play.

Down the stretch, Sophie Foote starred with a three from the corner and a 6-for-6 performance from the free-throw line to secure the win.

Wiemer had a game-high 15 for CCHS, while Foote finished with 12 and Robers eight.

The Lady ’Toppers seniors warmed up for the big night over the weekend when they led their team to a 52-45 overtime win over St. Thomas More.

Wiemer led all scorers with 21 points and Robers pitched in 19. Foote also had eight points, all in the fourth quarter and overtime.

Catholic Central goes on the road this weekend with a trip to Martin Luther Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
