Demon softball team off to rough beginning

In seven early-season games, the Burlington High School softball team managed just one win, defeating Racine Park 6-4 on Saturday.

The Demon girls began their season with a trip to Kentucky during spring break, playing teams from Eastern High School and Butler High School of Louisville.

On March 29, the Demons dropped a doubleheader to Eastern. Burlington dropped the first game 6-4, and the second game 9-3.

Demon pitcher Randee Jackson gave up four runs (two earned) on four hits over three innings, taking the loss. Danielle Koenen pitched the other three innings giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits.

In the second game, Koenen pitched all six innings, giving up all nine runs (four earned) on nine hits.

Talyn Lewis led the Demons with three hits in four at-bats, including a double. Jackson and Adriana Burd were each 2-for-4.

On March 30, Burlington dropped a doubleheader to Butler by scores of 6-0 and 7-6.

In the 6-0 loss, Koenen went all six innings, giving up just one earned run on five hits.

In the 7-6 loss, Jackson pitched the complete game, giving up four earned runs on six hits.

Chyanne Onstad and Courtney Wieners each went 2-for-4, with Onstad scoring twice and Wieners once. Sierra Koenen was 1-for-3, and Lauren Hockman 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

On Saturday, the Demons played three games, losing to Mukwonago 6-2 and Racine Case 6-1, before getting their win over Park.

In the Mukwonago game, Koenen gave up three earned runs on nine hits over seven innings.

Jackson took the loss against Case, going the distance and giving up two earned runs.

Offensively, Lewis led the Demon girls with two hits in three at-bats and a run scored.

Wieners had one RBI on one hit.

Burlington finally got in the win column with an eight-inning win over Park.

Koenen earned the victory, giving up just two earned runs on eight hits over eight innings.

Lewis led the Demons in hitting with two hits (both doubles) and two runs scored.

Burlington played at Union Grove Tuesday in opening Southern Lakes Conference action.

The Demon girls will host Wilmot on Thursday, April 11, at 4:30 p.m. in an SLC game.

On Friday, April 12, Westosha Central will come to town in another 4:30 p.m. SLC matchup. This game was postponed from April 4.

Next week, Burlington will host Badger on Tuesday, April 16, at 4:30 p.m.
