It was a great way to start Southern Lakes Conference action. The Burlington High School softball team, which started the season 1-6 in non-conference action, hosted Lake Geneva Badger Tuesday in an SLC doubleheader and won both games, 2-0 and 8-1.

In the opening game, Danielle Koenen pitched very well in shutting out Badger. Koenen gave up just four hits, and did not walk a batter, while striking out eight.

“She had a real nice game,” head coach Gary Caliva said. “She hit her spots real nice.”

Burlington scratched out a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single off the bat of Talyn Lewis. The girls added an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI single from Adriana Burd.

Chyanne Onstad had a triple in this game, but did not score.

The Demon girls also played solid defense, committing just one error.

In game two, the game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Badger pushed across a single run.

It stayed 1-0 Badger until the top of the sixth when Burlington exploded for seven runs. The girls added one more run in the seventh.

“We had seven hits in the sixth inning,” Caliva said, adding that prior to that inning the girls were hitting the ball hard, but right at people.

The Demon bats came alive in this game, pounding out 12 hits.

Onstad was 3-for-4 with a triple and RBI. Burd was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Jamie Kisting 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Burlington hurler Randee Jackson got the complete-game victory, giving up just one run on two hits, while walking three and striking out two. The Demons backed her up with errorless defense.

Caliva noted that both his pitchers did very well.

Burlington will try to make it three SLC wins in a row when the girls take on Elkhorn in SLC action today at 4:30 p.m. at Sunset Park, Elkhorn.

On Monday, April 22, the Demons will be at Waterford for a 4:30 p.m. SLC game.

On Tuesday, April 23, the girls will host Delavan-Darien in a 4:30 p.m. SLC matchup.
