Wolverines split four games on week’s SLC action

In what head coach Lance Bestland called a “great high school baseball game,” the Waterford High School bsaeball team fell 4-3 to Burlington Tuesday at home.

Burlington scored single runs in the third and seventh innings, and a pair of runs in the fifth.

All of Waterford’s runs came in the bottom of the seventh on a three-run homer off the bat of Tanner Hunsucker.

Burlington outhit Waterford 8-5, but also committed four errors to the Wolverines one.

With the loss, the Wolverines are now 5-6 overall and 3-5 in the Southern Lakes Conference.

 

Vs. Lake Geneva

The Wolverines saw their overall record drop to 5-5 following a 9-5 loss to Lake Geneva Badger Friday in a Southern Lakes Conference game.

Badger scored seven times in the second inning and never trailed after that.

Waterford trailed 8-0 going into the fifth inning and rallied for five runs to make it 8-5, but could get no closer.

Offensively, Tommy Dugandzic had two hits in the game, and Yiannis Skapinakis had two RBIs.

 

Vs. Delavan-Darien

One day earlier, the Waterford bats pounded out 24 total hits in a dominating doubleheader sweep of the Comets.

Waterford won the first game 11-1 and took the second by a score of 15-3.

In game one, neither team scored until the Wolverines put up two runs in the second. They added five in the fifth.

After Delavan-Darien scored its sole run in the bottom of the fifth, Waterford tacked on three more runs in the sixth and another in the seventh.

Tanner Hunsucker led the Wolverine boys with three hits and three RBIs. Dugandzic and Jacob Schuyler each had two hits (with Dugandzic getting two doubles) and two RBIs.

Hunsucker got the complete game victory.

The second game was over by the end of the first inning as Waterford scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first. The Wolverines added five more in the third and the game was called after 4-1/2 innings.

The Comets scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings.

Dugandzic had three RBIs in this game, with Tanner and Trace Hunsucker each collecting two. Trace Hunsucker had three hits, including a triple.

Dylan Malecki got the win, pitching 3-1/3 innings. Ryan Ratkovec pitched the other 1-2/3 innings.

 

Schedule

Waterford traveled to Kenosha Bradford for a non-conference game Wednesday, and played at Burlington for an SLC matchup Thursday.

On Saturday, May 4, the Wolverines will play Kaukauna and Eau Claire Memorial at Bayorgeon Field in two non-conference games at Kaukauna.

Next week, the boys will be at Wilmot on Monday, May 6, for a 4:30 p.m. SLC game, and then will host Wilmot on Wednesday, May 8, at 4:30 p.m.
