With all four golfers shooting in the 90s, the Union Grove High School boys golf team managed an eighth-place finish (out of 11 teams) at the Falcon Invitational hosted by Westosha Central and played on the Brighton Dale Golf Links Blue Spruce Course Saturday.

Sam Maier carded the best Bronco score with a 91 on the par-72 course. That included a 43 on the front nine and a 48 on the back.

“Sam had a very solid round,” head coach Eric Swanson said. “He had one rough hole that could have destroyed his round, but he showed a lot of poise and regrouped to finish with a good score.”

Ben Maier was four strokes back with a 95 (47-48).

Steve Peterson and Justin Schuster each carded 97s.

“Overall, I was pleased with how we did,” Swanson said. “The top three scores for our team were from the three freshmen. For all three of them to come in under 100 at Brighton Dale, when we played from the blue tees, is pretty impressive.”
