Two incumbent aldermen won’t seek re-election

City seeks candidates for Common Council seats

Incumbent City of Burlington Aldermen Jim Prailes and Jeff Fischer will not seek additional terms in the spring election, according to City Administrator Kevin Lahner. Prailes, who represents the 2nd District, and Fischer, 4th District, filed their required statements of non-candidacy recently.

That leaves Mayor Bob Miller and Aldermen Tom Vos, 3rd District, and Edward Johnson, 1st District, as the remaining City Council incumbents on the ballot.

Lahner said no other candidates had stepped forward as of Thursday to seek the open seats.

City residents who are interested in seeking any of those positions have until 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, to file nomination papers.

Information on aldermanic districts and the nomination process is available from City Clerk Beverly Gill at City Hall, 300 N. Pine Street.

The spring election is scheduled for April 3. A primary, if needed, will be Feb. 21. A primary is scheduled if more than two candidates file for each open position.
