A burning ban has gone into effect for the Town of Burlington, with all burning except grilling not allowed.

“According to the DNR website, which is kind of where we go off of, we’re in a very high danger,” said Town of Burlington Fire Chief Ed Umnus. “Just due to the dryness and the winds we’ve been having, we’re putting one out.”

Any burning outside is banned. Any type of brush fires, field fires, or burning pits are included. Umnus said the department is not banning grilling, but fireworks are included.

Umnus also said the Venetian Night fireworks, set for July 7 at nightfall, is scheduled to go on as planned.

“It’s an organized event that they have, and they are shooting them off from the water,” he said. “We feel pretty confident that nothing will float that far onto shore, the embers or anything.”

Mayor Bob Miller put the City of Burlington on a burning ban Tuesday until further notice as well.
