Firefighters ready for July 4 blast

Fireworks display launches from festival grounds

City of Burlington firefighters are gearing up for their annual July 4 celebration in Echo Park.

The event – featuring food, drink and live music from Chasin’ Mason – runs from 2 to 10:30 p.m. in Echo Park.

The highlight of the evening will be the annual Independence Day fireworks display at dusk.

This year the display will be launched over the ChocolateFest grounds across Milwaukee Avenue from Echo Park to better accommodate the set up of the display, according to city Fire Inspector John Niederer.

In the past, the display had been launched over Echo Lake, but logistically, it has outgrown that location, Niederer said. Earlier this year the City Council voted to double the money it spends on the annual pyrotechnics display. Echo Park will still provide prime viewing for the sky show.

Throughout the event firefighters will serve a variety of grilled favorites and other food along with beer, soda and bottled water.

Chasin’ Mason is scheduled to perform at 7 p.m. The group will take a break for the fireworks display and will return to the stage afterward to play until 10:30 p.m.

City residents are reminded to return their raffle tickets distributed earlier this month. The July 4 celebration and raffle is the only fundraiser hosted by the department.
