Here’s a look at some of the other stories in this week’s edition:

  • JEALOUS RAGE FUELS MURDER: Racine County prosecutors contend Troy Hoffmann shot and killed Chad Bickler, 42, in a violent rage sparked by jealousy over a woman Dec. 26 in Wind Lake. Hoffmann, 40, of New Berlin, was formally charged Monday in Racine County Circuit Court with first-degree intentional homicide, attempted first-degree intentional homicide, and felony mistreatment of an animal – all with the use of a dangerous weapon.
  • LIAR, LIAR, PANTS ON FIRE: Daryl Lockwood, of Waupaca, is the Burlington Liars Club’s first repeat winner in its 90-year history. The Liars Club, which recently announced Lockwood’s victory, said Lockwood’s fib was one of nearly 200 entries submitted to the organization. Lockwood’s entry is a creative take on financial “stability.”
  • POT ‘TOURISM’ DISCOURAGED: There was a time in Wisconsin history, in the recent past, when families broke the law over butter. Normally law-abiding citizens sneaked over the Wisconsin-Illinois state line for years to buy yellow oleo. Now, with sales of recreational marijuana legal in Illinois, it’s likely a similar smuggling is taking place – much to the concern of local law enforcement agencies.
  • A LONG TIME COMING: After a losing streak lasting 31 games spanning two seasons, the Burlington High School girls basketball team on Saturday captured its first win since Feb. 15, 2018.
