Man charged for threatening to ‘shoot up’ workplace

A Burlington man who threatened to “shoot up” his workplace if he caught the coronavirus has been charged with multiple felonies including making terrorist threats and possession of an improvised explosive device.

Jakob J. Stolp

Jakob J. Stolp, 37, was charged Thursday with the above offenses in addition to possession of marijuana (second and subsequent offense), possession of drug paraphernalia, using a computer message to threaten injury or harm, and disorderly conduct.

Stolp is accused of making the threats to fellow employees at ASDA Enterprises, 6320 McHenry Street, a refuse collection and recycling business.

According to the criminal complaint filed Thursday in Racine County Circuit Court, employees allegedly heard Stolp say, “If I get the coronavirus I’m going to shoot up the place.”

Another employee told investigators he had heard Stolp make similar threats in the past along the lines of “blow up the place and shoot up the place.” He also said he had seen phone messages sent by Stolp that contained threats and a photo of guns.

Yet another employee reported receiving a series of and threatening text messages, including the photo of guns, in which Stolp allegedly threatened to “beat the sh– out of you” and “I don’t care if I go back to prison or get fired.” Stolp also allegedly asked the coworker to “quit right now” because he was sick of him.

Investigators from the Racine County Sheriff’s Office arrested Stolp Wednesday and executed a search warrant at his home. The search allegedly turned up numerous rounds of ammunition, the makings of a pipe bomb, marijuana, a marijuana pipe and THC vape cartridges, according to the complaint.

Investigators also identified the area in Stolp’s backyard where the photo of guns he sent to coworkers was taken, the complaint alleges.

Stolp told investigators he does not own the guns but his friends brought them over for target practice in Stolp’s backyard. He denied handling or shooting the guns, the complaint said.
