Man who died in house fire enjoyed motorsports

Funeral for Tyler Werlein was set for Friday

Racine County authorities identified the man who died in a May 12 Town of Burlington house fire as 29-year-old Tyler Werlein.

Werlein, according to his obituary, graduated from Burlington High School and worked as an auto technician before the house fire in the 3000 block of Spring Drive in the Town of Burlington.

The Racine County Sheriff’s Office, which did not suspect any foul play, said deputies responded to home around 1:16 p.m. and discovered heavy smoke coming from the front of the residence with visible flames on the northwest corner of the structure.

Sheriff’s deputies checked into the residence, but could not gain entry, because the door was locked and secured.

“Deputies attempted entry at the rear door, but it was hot to the touch, therefore, deputies could not make entry into the residence,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities then evacuated neighbors and maintained a perimeter as firefighters from the town and city of Burlington responded to the building.

Fire officials, the Sheriff’s Office said, made entry into the home and extinguished the fire.

Emergency responders transported Werlein to Aurora Health Center in Burlington, where officials pronounced him dead, according to the Racine County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities, including members of the Racine County Fire Task Force, continue to investigate the fire’s cause.

Werlein, whose funeral whose funeral was scheduled for Friday, enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycling as well as four-wheeling.
