Visionaries needed to strategize the future

A group of 40-plus volunteer community activists has come together to chart a course for an even better Waterford, as the community moves forward into its next hundred years.

Called “Absolutely Waterford,” the group hopes to attract an even greater number of interested residents and volunteers as Waterford moves forward into the future.

“Their determination and hard work has already resulted in our village being accepted into a 25-year-old state-funded community enhancement program called the ‘Wisconsin Main Street Program,’ ” explains Thomas Roanhouse, Village of Waterford President.

Next step in the process is a Strategic Visionary Session being held Thursday, Oct. 13. 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., in the Community Room at the Waterford Library.

Conducted by Main Street professionals, the vision being created “provides meaning and describes who we are and who we want to become – a portrayal of our desired future,” explains Roanhouse.

Main Street’s goal is ultimately to make the village and its downtown more appealing to visitors, friends, relatives and neighbors.

“Very simply put, the goal is to make Waterford a pedestrian-friendly place where people want to patronize,” explains Roanhouse.

The process underway is a journey in which little steps someday will be viewed as big steps, adds Roanhouse.

Encouraged to attend Thursday’s session are all downtown businesses owners and operators, downtown organizations, area economic development organizations, civic organizations, village and county officials and staff, area legislators, financial institutions, utility representatives, historical groups and village residents and neighborhood groups.

“Knowing the strong volunteer spirit in Waterford, affirmed by all the great events and activities, I am confident that these stakeholders will not only ‘show up’ but will also ‘step up’ and bring great ideas and visions to the table,” says Roanhouse.
