She initially thought ticket was worth $25,000

A Wind Lake woman who initially thought she’d hit it big with a $25,000 lottery scratch-off game prize recently had no idea just how big.

Bobbi Mangan was excited for her $25,000 scratch-off win, according to a news release from the Wisconsin Lottery. She counted the nine words on her crossword ticket and looked forward to receiving her winnings.

What she overlooked, however, was the 10th word on the $30 Super Mega Star Crossword game. With 10 words, she actually had a top prize-winning ticket worth $500,000.

Mangan, a loyal Lottery player, was thrilled with bigger than expected prize, according to lottery officials.

“It pays to play,” Mangan said. “You can’t win if you don’t play.”

The odds of winning the $500,000 top prize in Super Mega Star Crossword are one in 106,667, according to Wisconsin Lottery.

She bought the winning ticket at the BP station, 7812 S. Loomis Road, that is owned by GP 4 Petroleum LLC. Retailers who sell winning tickets over $599 receive an incentive of 2% of the winning ticket amount up to $100,000. GP Petroleum will receive a $10,000 incentive, according to lottery officials.
