CATHERINE E. KNUDSEN


Catherine “Kay” Euveta Knudsen, 84, Burlington, died Oct. 31, 2011, at Arbor View Communities.

She was born Dec. 19, 1926, in Tomahawk, to the late William Charles and Ruby Victoria (Baker) Hughes. Kay spent her early life in Rhinelander and Honey Creek and graduated from AG School in Rochester, class of 1946.

She worked as a secretary for Murphy Products in Burlington from 1945 until 1950, then N.E.L. from 1971 to 1975, Montgomery Wards from 1975 until 1978 before working as a unit clerk at Memorial Hospital of Burlington from 1978 until 1989.

She loved reading, traveling, cooking, dancing and playing cards, and was a member of the same bridge club for over 50 years. She had been a member of the Daughters of Isabella and was a current member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Waterford. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children, Lori M. (Allen) Traber, Burlington, James M. (Laura) Gendrich, Milwaukee; stepchildren, Mary Anne (Frank) Michalowski, Racine, Karen (Kurt) Genich, Racine, Carol (Russell) Grothus, West Bend, Margaret Lampark, Racine; grandchildren, Marcus A. Traber, Matthew J. Traber, Nathan and Brian Michalowski, Sarah Savino, Rachel, Madyln and Jessica Lampark, Nancy Covello, William Genich, Liz Krebs, and Catherine, Anne and Russell Grothus; her siblings, Rena Hughes, Beaver Dam, Marlene Moruzzi, Midlothian, Ill., Darlene (Larry) McGhee, Decatur, Ala., Gerri (Bub) Dennis, Beecher, Ill., Connie (Bernie) Hilgart, Park Falls, Jackie (Jerry) Reinhardt, Rice Lake; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was further preceded in death by her stepfather, Vern Smith; stepmother, Grace Hughes; brothers, Lucien Hughes, Robert (Jeannette) Hughes and William F. (Genevieve) Hughes; sister, Sylvia (Elmer) Schuflatowski; brother-in-law, Pete Moruzzi; and nephews, Billy Hughes and Ted Miller.

Visitation is Friday, Nov. 4, from 9:30-10:45 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Waterford. The Rev. Gene Doda will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Cemetery. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is assisting the family.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Zaremba and her staff, the staff at Arbor View Communities, and the staff at Odyssey Hospice for all their care and compassion.

Memorials to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church are suggested.
