CHARLES M. ROBERS


Charles M. Robers, 87, Burlington, died May 2, 2012, at Geneva Lake Manor. He was born Feb. 13, 1925, in Wheatland to the late Martin and Catherine (Lois) Robers. He spent his early life in Wheatland on the family farm.

On Nov. 3, 1945 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in New Munster, he married Phyllis Johnson. Together they made their home in Wheatland before moving to Burlington. She preceded him in death Sept. 11, 1979.

He drove truck for the Burlington Feed Co., as well as delivering fuel for Hansen Oil. He had also worked for Wauconda Lumber and Lake Zurich Lumber Co. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting, tractor shows and attending auctions.

Survivors include his children, Shirley (Harry) Mason, Canon City, Colo., James (Doris) Robers, Sycamore, Ill., Margaret Albert, Genoa City, Deborah (Dennis) Findley, Janesville, Daniel (Carol) Robers, Madison, Ala., Douglas Robers, Burlington, Lori (Kevin) Berris, Burlington; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; siblings, Martin (Audrey) Robers, Burlington, Lucille Borucki, Burlington, Edward Robers, Newport, Ore.; sisters-in-law, Patricia Robers and Marian Flock, both Burlington; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was further preceded in death by his son, Charles; grandson, Nathan Robers; great-grandson, Stephen Grice; siblings, Martha (Ed) Hegeman, Esther (Roman) Hegeman and Arthur Robers; in-laws, Andrew Borucki, Herbert (Irene) Johnson, Helen (Peter) Kurtenbach, Lawrence Johnson, Ruth (Elmer) Eppers, Edith (Leroy) Ketterhagen, Richard (Jeanette) Johnson, Ethel (Cliff) Esmond, Myrtle Christensen, and Richard Flock.

Visitation is Sunday, May 6, from 3-7 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Family Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 7, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Burlington. The Rev. John Twomey will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials to Odyssey Hospice are suggested.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Beulah for Friday night fish fries at Blue Bay, and to the patient care staff of Geneva Lake Manor and Rehab, especially Elizabeth and Aurora ‘Clementine’ for all the care they gave Charles. They would also like to express a sincere thank you to Rev. John Twomey for officiating the service.
