JOSEPHINE J. BUCHAN


Josephine Jane “Jo” Buchan, 86, Burlington, died Feb. 21, 2012, at Kindred Nursing Center, formerly Mount Carmel Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Milwaukee, to the late Alexander and Anna (Galger) Smith. She spent her early life and received her education in Cudahy.

On May 8, 1943 in Fort McClellan, Ala., she married Phillip Wayne “Buck” Buchan. Following marriage they made their home in Muskego and then Burlington. He preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 2003.

She worked as a dietician at St. Francis Hospital in Milwaukee. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 7924 in Kansasville, serving as president more than once and had made many trips to Woods Hospital in Milwaukee to deliver cookies to veterans.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Burlington and had volunteered at Mount Carmel Medical Center before having a stroke. She loved cooking and baking for her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Denny (Jean) Buchan, Muskego, Sandy (Jerry) Graff, Burlington, JoAnn (Bert) Lois, Burlington, and Penny Koch, Oak Creek; grandchildren, Sherry (Travis) Luedtke, Tammy (Pat) Nannemann, Michelle (Kary) Jacks, Cindy (Joe) Behm, Matthew (Katy) Buchan, Steven (Rachael) Buchan, Michael (Toni) Koch; 11 great-grandchildren;  her sister, Tillie Jost, South Milwaukee; sister-in-law, Dorothy Buchan, Milwaukee; and special friend, Dolly Epping.

She was further preceded in death by her granddaughter, Amy Buchan; brother; sisters; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Feb. 25, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Rev. James Volkert officiated. Private inurnment will be in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Schuette-Daniels Family Funeral Home, Burlington, is assisting the family.

Memorials to the American Cancer Society of St. Jude Children’s Hospital are suggested.
