VERA KOEHNKE


Vera Koehnke, 91, Milwaukee, died Jan. 11, 2012, at Milwaukee Estates. She was born Oct. 8, 1920, in Wisconsin, to the late Albert and Laura (Kaddatz) Rieck. She spent her early life in Elkhorn and was a graduate of Elkhorn High School.

On June 28, 1939, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Slades Corners, she married Elmer A. Koehnke. Following marriage they made their home in Spring Prairie. He preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1996.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burlington. She enjoyed polka dancing, baking cookies, mowing lawns and entertaining at the neighborhood card parties.

Survivors include her son, Dennis (Mary) Koehnke; grandson, Christopher Koehnke; sister-in-law, Betty Jo Rieck; numerous nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was further preceded in death by siblings, Warren Rieck, Marion (Bill) Banks, Audrey (Art) Clausen; and nephew, Brian Rieck.

Visitation is Friday, Jan. 13, from 4 p.m. until time of services at 7 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. The Rev. Kirk Lahmann will officiate. Private interment will take place at Hudson Cemetery.

Memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burlington or the Alzheimer’s Association have been suggested.
