The Burlington co-op swim team placed fourth out of 11 teams at the Caleb Gottinger Memorial Invite held at Riverside High School Saturday. One year ago, the Demon boys were sixth in the 10-team field at the same event.

“They had a very good meet,” head coach Denita Jones said of Saturday’s results. “So many of the kids had personal best times.”

The team had no winners at the meet, but the Demons depth made the difference, which is something new for the co-op squad, Jones noted.

This invitational was divided into freshmen/sophomore races and junior/senior races.

The boys’ best finish overall came in the freshmen/sophomore 100-yard breaststroke where Connor Krattiger placed second in one minute 25.89 seconds. Krattiger also was fifth in the freshmen/sophomore 200-yard individual medley (2:41.74).

“He’s one of my freshman who came out this year,” Jones said.

Krattiger scored the most individual points of anyone on the team, with 31 points.

Luke Herman was sixth in the same race in 2:49.28, and was also sixth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:19.45).

Bryce Filer also did well in the freshmen/sophomore races, finishing fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (6:30.71) and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle (2:17.78).

The freshmen/sophomore 200-yard medley relay team was third, as was the 200-yard freshmen/sophomore freestyle relay team.

“The freshmen/sophomore group did very well,” Jones said.

In the junior/senior competition David Jones led the way, placing third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.66) and sixth in the 50-yard freestyle (24.77).

Shaun Weber was sixth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.16) and seventh in the 500-yard freestyle (6:07.25).

Andrew Brutlag was eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.97) and ninth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:16.71).

The junior/senior 200-yard medley relay team was fourth, as was the 200-yard freestyle relay team.
