Although both squads finished in the middle of the pack team-wise, the Union Grove High School cross country runners reached several season milestones at the Chocolate City Invite held Saturday at the St. Francis Retreat Center, Burlington.

The Bronco boys finished eight out of 15 teams and were led by Logan Kohlhagen in 17 minutes 38 seconds. That was good enough for 31st place overall.

Bailey Davis was just six seconds in 17:44 (33rd) and Luke Johnson another three seconds behind in 17:47 (35th).

Finishing out the top-five for the Bronco boys were Sam Schaefer in 18:28 (54th) and Tommy Ruge in 18:59 (70th).

“All our scoring runners were sub 19 (minutes),” head coach Kyle Patoka noted.

As she has all season, Madelyn Schwartz led the Bronco girls. She finished fifth overall in 15:44, which earned her a medal.

Schwartz led for a good portion of the varsity race, but was caught down the stretch.

Anna Peterson was clocked in 16:53 (39th), Lexi Marsh in 17:25 (57th), Savannah Patzen in 17:46 (63rd) and Brianna DeBrabander in 17:51 (66th).

Patoka was excited to see all his Bronco girls turn in times under 18 minutes.

Patoka added that Marsh ran most of the race without a shoe.

Divine Savior Holy Angels won the girls meet, while Waukesha South took the boys side.

Both squads will wrap up the regular season at the Wolverine Invitational held at Waterford today.
