Even with having the smallest squad at the event, the Burlington co-op boys swim team finishes eighth out of 11 teams at the South Milwaukee Rocket Invite Saturday.

“The team did very well,” head coach Denita Jones said. “We weren’t last for a change.”

Burlington scored 124 points.

“That’s pretty good for our boys,” Jones said.

Muskego won the event with 442 points.

The Demons had three top-six finishes. David Jones finished third in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.96, a lifetime best.

Matt Briggs took sixth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.95.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Briggs, Andrew Brutlag, Shaun Weber and Jones also finished sixth. Their time of 1:54.80 was nearly four seconds below their seeded time.

Burlington had just eight swimmers at the event, with Jones estimating that the fewest any other team had was 12.

“That’s our downfall right now,” Jones said. “If we had more guys, we’d be more competitive.”
