Deputies search for armed robber

He reportedly targeted people at two local libraries

Racine County Sheriff’s deputies are searching Waterford and Rochester for a suspect in an armed robbery and an attempted robbery that occurred late Thursday morning.

According to Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Sikora, the man may have gotten as little as $10. Deputies are looking for a Hispanic man wearing a blue baseball hat, white T-shirt, black baggie shorts, and black Nike shoes with a white swoosh logo.

Officials advised people not to approach the suspect because he may be armed. Instead, anyone seeing a person matching the description should call the county communications center at (262) 886-2300.

According to various reports, the armed robbery occurred at the Rochester Public Library and was followed shortly by an attempted robbery in the parking lot of the Waterford Public Library.

No one was injured in either incident, according to Sikora.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Village of Rochester at about 11:43 a.m. and then were summoned to the Village of Waterford at about 11:56 a.m. today.

An electronic notification was sent to residents of both neighborhoods by the Sheriff’s Office notifying them of the search for the suspect.

Sikora distributed a photo of the suspect captured on a surveillance camera at the Waterford library. Sikora added that supervisors remain in the field on the search, and that there are “several leads” on who the man could be.

“We haven’t located him yet,” Sikora said about 3:15 p.m. Thursday.

Updated suspect description from Sheriff’s Office: late teens to early 20’s, about 5 feet, 10 inches and 175 to 200 pounds; rough shaven, was wearing dark blue, baggy shorts and a blue Pabst baseball hat. It appears he may have changed his shirt in between locations. While at the Rochester library he was wearing a dark-colored T-shirt and at the Waterford library he was wearing a white polo shirt.
