Man dies in crash with semi on Highway 11

A Wausau man was killed and a Kenosha woman was seriously injured Sunday afternoon when the car they were in collided with a semi-trailer truck on Highway 11 west of Burlington.

Matthew Bowden Kehl, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Walworth County coroner on Highway 11 near Plank Road in the Town of Lafayette, according to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department.

The driver of the car, Sophie M. Nelson, 21, was flown directly from the crash scene by Flight for Life helicopter. Sheriff’s officials did not know her condition as of Monday morning.

Both Nelson and Bowden Kehl were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, officials said.

According to the preliminary probe by the Walworth County Crash Investigation Unit, Nelson was driving a 1996 Buick Regal west on Highway 11 about 3:45 p.m. when the vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with the oncoming truck.

The semi, owned by Mighty Grand Dairy of Union Grove, was driven by John Seybert III, 52, of Bristol. He was not injured.

The passenger side of the Buick suffered severe damage.

The crash case remains open and under investigation by the sheriff’s department.
