If there’s one thing Rob Bach and the Burlington Airport want to accomplish with their annual fly-in this year, it’s getting people out to the community airport.
Whether it’s to eat, see the planes or see the classic cars, Bach wants people to come to the airport.
“The whole idea of this fly-in is a public outreach,” said Bach. “We want to show off what we do.”
The airport will hold its fly-in Sunday, Aug. 26, starting at 8 a.m. with breakfast served by B*Jazzled – Burlington High School’s show choir.
Classic airplanes from the 1920s, 30s and 40s will be available not just to be seen, but to be touched. It’s that hometown feel that Bach is touting.
“It’s always nice to get up close enough to touch the airplanes,” Bach said, who added that many other airports would be attending the fly-in.
He is also expecting training planes from World War II and the Korean War to make the trip to Burlington. And in addition to the antique planes, there will be antique cars on display.
Really, Bach said, there should be something for everyone.
It’s why this year’s fly-in has the theme “Wings and Wheels.”
“We don’t make any money on this at all,” Bach said. “It’s purely to get people out to see the airport and how we run.
“We want people to come out,” he added. “They’re going to get a chance to hear what a World War II plane sounds like starting up.”
