The beauty of rural art and food
Explore the beauty of western Racine County on Saturday, Oct. 13, when the Racine Arts Council conducts a narrated motor coach tour featuring Quilts on Barns installations located west of I-94.
The event concludes with a four-course farm-to-table luncheon at the Wind Lake homestead of Phil and Jean Jacobson.
The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., begins and ends at the Real Racine Visitors Center; 14015 Washington Ave. (Highway 20), Racine.
Ticket cost is $75 per person. Seating is very limited, said Pat Levine, chairperson of the event and board president of Racine Arts Council
“We know tour participants will enjoy hearing more about the quilts on the barns, which have adorned Racine County barns since 2008,” said Levine.
“And when they get to the Town of Norway, they will also have the opportunity to visit the oldest Lutheran Church in America, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.”
The Quilts on Barns: The Beauty of Rural Art and Food event culminates with the farm-to-table gourmet luncheon at the Jacobson homestead, where the menu includes locally grown foods.
While there, guests will enjoy quilting and cooking demonstrations and tour the grounds. Docents will be available to share historical information with guests.
The Jacobson homestead is located on one of the highest elevations in Racine County, offering a wide view of the splendor of fall colors, rolling hills and farms that surround it.
Each tour participant also will receive a “goody bag” and a complimentary one-year Racine Arts Council membership.
All proceeds from this event will benefit the Racine Arts Council, Levine said, assisting the group in its continuing work to support and advocate on behalf of the arts in the community.
Tickets for this tour are available online at www.racineartscouncil.org; at the Town of Norway Town Hall, 6419 Heg Park Rd., Wind Lake; and the Real Racine Visitors Center in Racine.
