Fire breakfast set for Sunday

The City of Burlington Fire Department, fresh off a remodeling project, will open its doors to the public Sunday at 165 W. Washington St.

The department will hold a pancake breakfast from 7-11 a.m. Donations will be accepted for the meal – with funds going toward training and public education.

Fire Chief Perry Howard said Tuesday he expects most of his department to show up for the event, and would be there himself.

“It’s exciting,” Howard said of the response, which also includes firefighters working on their own time this week for “Fire Prevention Week.”

“It’s their own time,” Howard said. “They’re highly dedicated to do this.”

In addition to the breakfast, tours of the station – which just finished reworking various parts of the station and putting in a new parking lot – will be done, as well as fire extinguisher training for anyone 18 or older and free blood-pressure screenings.

Editor’s Note: The print version of this story said the breakfast was scheduled for Saturday instead of Sunday. We apologize for the error.
