But analyst says relief is on the way
Average retail gasoline prices in Wisconsin have risen 8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $4.01 per gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 3,112 gas outlets in Wisconsin.
This compares with the national average that has not moved in the last week to $3.64, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
Including the change in gas prices in Wisconsin during the past week, prices yesterday were 39.9 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 24.1 cents per gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 6.9 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 7.8 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.
“While the national average has seen little change in the last week, prices in the Great Lakes have skyrocketed. In many cities in that region, new all time record high prices have been set,” said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan.
“In areas that have featured skyrocketing gasoline prices amidst stable oil prices, refineries continue to be beset with shutdowns, maintenance, and other problems that have hampered production of gasoline and other products, leading to much higher prices. While these situations are difficult for motorists to digest, relief is on the way and will likely arrive in a few weeks,” DeHaan said.
