Tornado warning was a test, NWS says

Certainly people throughout the area are a bit on edge anticipating a snowstorm later today and Tuesday that could bring up to a foot of snow to the area – but a tornado warning? Really?

No, not really. The National Weather Service office in Sullivan issued a tornado warning for all of Southeastern Wisconsin at 10:28 a.m. Monday. Five minutes later the office issued a statement: it was only a test.

The only problem? It appears the office neglected to tell anyone they were conducting a test. Or maybe it was a mistake.

Whatever the reason, the warning – received by many via mobile phone alert – had more than a few people looking skyward and wondering why they were being advised to take cover immediately.

While the warm summer weather and thunder clouds that usually accompany a tornado were missing, there were undoubtedly more than a few people who recalled the January tornado of several years ago that brought significant destruction to the Wheatland area.

For them it was likely an uncomfortable five minutes.
