Burlington Area School District staff are mourning the loss of one of their own today.
Jennifer Libbey, who was slated to teach 4-year-old kindergarten starting this fall, died unexpectedly Thursday. Staff within the district were notified Friday morning by BASD Superintendent Peter Smet.
“I am very sorry to announce that Winkler teacher Jennifer Libbey passed away last evening,” Smet wrote. “Arrangements are pending at Daniels Family Funeral Home in Burlington.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Libbey family at this tragic time.”
An obituary had yet to be posted on the Daniels Family Funeral Home website Friday afternoon.
Smet said Friday that the district will be working to fill the open staff position as soon as possible. Libbey’s death leaves a second opening in the 4K staff, as another teacher resigned earlier this month. Smet expected to have both positions filled by the start of the school year.
