The early week cold spell affected more than just classes in the school district. Also cancelled were a pair of BASD School Board committee meetings.
Both meetings were rescheduled for this coming Monday, Feb. 3. The two meetings will be held at the Burlington High School library. The Personnel Committee meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., with the Curriculum Committee meeting to follow at 7 p.m.
The first meeting will provide an open hearing for a citizen representative. The newly changed citizen rep policy now allows the Personnel Committee to “vet” potential representatives.
Following that meeting is the second of two discussions on 4-year-old kindergarten proposal in the Curriculum Committee. The subject has generated a great deal of interest both for and against the idea, as the district will have to pay for the first year of the program out of its pocket before receiving state aid the second year and beyond.
“This is, again, a unique situation,” said Smet, adding that he can’t remember two committee meetings being canceled because of the wind chill warnings.
“It’s not fair to bring people out for a meeting in a -50 degree wind chill,” Smet said.
