Burlington High School is also finalizing its preparations for when Wisconsin State Superintendent Tony Evers comes to town next week.
Evers will be at BHS Thursday, Feb. 20, from 10:45 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
BHS Principal Eric Burling said in an email to staff on Friday that Evers’ visit “could not have come at a better time.” With the recent news that Aurora Health Care is going to commit fully to the Burlington area, Burling said the visit would “provide us a great opportunity to showcase to our local executives and legislators some of the excellent programs and great school we have for our students.”
Evers announced earlier this month that he intended to visit BHS as part of February’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) month.
“He wants to highlight the things that we’ve done with the work keys, the High Expectation Portfolio (HEP) and the ACE academy,” Burlington Area School District Superintendent Peter Smet said at the time.
Career technical education includes the fields of agriculture, business information and technology, family and consumer education and technology education. The ACE Academy covers architecture, construction and engineering.
Those teachers at BHS are Katie Hagemann (agriculture), Michelle Peets, Dan Luneau, Amber Braun and Jade Gribble (business), Rachel Vorpagel (consumer education) and Casey Miller, Mike Prahl and Nick Schilleman (technical education/ACE).
Among the items on the agenda for next week’s visit are presentations on the district’s Higher Expectation Portfolio, the college and career readiness curriculum and the school’s radio station WBSD 89.1.
BHS teachers will also present on the Architecture Construction Engineering (ACE) Academy, science-related CTE courses and Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) classes.
