The Burlington Area School District’s Finance Committee approved a pair of budget adjustments Monday night – one for the current school year, and one to finalize the budget going before the annual meeting in August.

According to the district office, the date for the 2014 annual meeting has not yet been set. It has generally been on the last Monday in August, however.

The budget adjustments Monday night were minor. For the 2013-14 budget, there was actually a decrease in costs, meaning the fund balance increased about $56,500. The district’s revenues had increased slightly due to some grant money, while expenditures were up approximately $17,000.

The 2013-14 budget allowed for negotiated retroactive pay increases for staff in 2012-13.

The preliminary 2014-15 budget that is set to go before the annual meeting has costs actually dropping about $200,000 in salaries, but an increase in costs because of 4-year-kindergarten startup.

The tax levy is still a 3.90 percent increase, or 43 cents per $1,000 of property value (equalized).
