In what appeared to be a strong voice of support for current district spending policies, incumbents Rosanne Hahn and Bill Campbell earned re-election Tuesday night.

Joining the two incumbents will be Todd Terry, a Burlington lawyer who picked up the most votes Tuesday night.

Terry finished the race – which includes voters in the town and city of Burlington, Town of Dover and portions of Walworth County – with 1,983 votes. Hahn followed with 1,751 votes, while Campbell had 1,677 votes.

Bob Lemken (1,003 votes) and Jim Berndt (964 votes) rounded out the field. Catherine Thielen, who dropped out of the race last month, still picked up 327 votes.

Neither Terry nor Campbell could be reached for comment Tuesday evening. However, Hahn was pleased to retain her seat.

“It feels wonderful,” said Hahn, who was thankful for the people who voted for her. “It just makes me feel the citizens trust me with the education of the kids in the community.

“I’m happy to keep doing the job I’ve been doing.”

Lemken, meanwhile, felt the opposition had created a strong front.

“They banded together,” Lemken said. “It was three against one. It’s not surprising to me.”

Lemken said he would consider running again. He sounded frustrated, though, that some in the race as called themselves fiscally conservative.

“I don’t think it’s fair they should characterized as fiscal conservatives,” Lemken said of Campbell and Hahn. He felt their choice to call themselves that flew in the face of their stances on Act 10.

Berndt, meanwhile, said he’d been treated fairly in what was, overall, a non-acrimonious election process.

“I thought it was a really good race,” Berndt said. “It didn’t get personal or anything.”

Looking ahead, Berndt expected a much different race next spring when Phil Ketterhagen and Roger Koldeway are up for re-election.

Others unopposed

In other local races:

• Running unopposed, Mayor Bob Miller (985 votes), District 1 Alderman Ed Johnson (158 votes), District Alderman Ruth Dawidziak (188 votes), District 3 Alderman Tom Vos (287 votes) and District 4 Alderman Tom Preusker (287 votes) were re-elected.

• Burlington Town Board Supervisors Joan Boehm (519 votes) and Jeff Lang (512 votes) were re-elected after running unopposed.

• County supervisors Mike Dawson (675 votes) and Thomas Pringle (974 votes) from Burlington were re-elected after running unopposed.
