If it’s time for spring cleaning, fittingly, it’s time for the annual “Clean Sweep” program.
City and Town of Burlington residents, as well as those in the Town of Dover, Village of Rochester, Village of Union Grove and Village of Waterford, can drop off a number of hazardous household waste, electronics and prescription medication for free Saturday. The program will be offered at the Burlington Department of Public Works Facility, 2200 South Pine Street.
The program has proven popular the last two years, as long lines develop when residents drop off everything from unused weed killer to household electronics.
Those coming to drop off items must show a proof of residency, and items must be separated into chemicals, prescriptions and electronics.
Separate charitable donations of food, clothing and useable household items will be accepted by Love Inc.
No containers will be returned. Among the items that won’t be accepted are syringes, latex paint, propane tanks, explosives, containers over five gallons, medical waste and radioactive materials.
Among the items that will be accepted are:
• Electronics, with a $10 fee for monitors and televisions.
• Fluorescent lighting and mercury products.
• Oil-based paints, varnish and thinners.
• Batteries.
• Cleaning supplies, polishes and polish removers.
• Automotive chemicals, oils and cleaners.
• Prescription medications, and toxic chemicals and poisons.
