A Milwaukee man who is currently serving an 18-month sentence for theft was charged recently with stealing big-screen televisions and other electronic equipment from the Burlington Walmart store.
Ricardo A. Ocanas, 23, appeared in Racine County Circuit Court Tuesday on felony retail theft charges for allegedly stealing nearly $2,000 in electronic equipment from Walmart.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17.
According to online court records, Ocanas is currently serving a sentence for retail theft that occurred in Waukesha County.
According to the criminal complaint filed in the Burlington case, a Walmart employee reported the theft of two 46-inch televisions, a desktop computer and a surround sound system on Jan. 15.
A man was caught on video surveillance putting the items into a cart, walking into the lawn and garden area of the store and leaving through an emergency exit where a vehicle was waiting to pick him up.
Three days later a Burlington investigator learned of another theft in Greenfield during which a similar vehicle was used. One of the men in the vehicle, Ocanas, matched the description of the man involved in the Burlington theft.
Police then contacted Ocanas’ probation agent, who positively identified him as the man in the surveillance video.
