It has been a year of change for the Transitional Living Center.
This spring, the group changed its logo, looking for a newer, fresher approach.
And on Saturday, TLC will wrap up a summer concert series that has – at least for this year – replaced the annual “Markstock” event.
The first of three benefit concerts took place in June at the Coffee House at Chestnut and Pine, and the last is Saturday at the Coffee House as well. The new event is called “Music for Match,” and organizers hope it will raise a good amount of money for the women/children/family homeless shelter.
“I think it was an opportunity to do something different,” said TLC Board of Directors Secretary Pat Hoffman. “It’s the twin goals that we’re raising awareness, that we’re a separate organization … and raising money.”
Hoffman said the group sometimes gets confused with Love, Inc., and that TLC has to raise its own funds to function.
“We’re excited to see what happens with this, and how it works out,” Hoffman said.
The band Saturday will be Orange Crush – the Burlington High School rock band that plays at various events both at the high school and outside of it.
Hoffman said the event will be a “pass the hat” donation, with the capacity to take credit card donations as well as cash and checks.
Life Bridge Church and Runzheimer have served as sponsors, and Hoffman called Runzheimer “an amazing community partner.”
Life Bridge will also sponsor the Restoration 5K run/walk. It was originally scheduled for July 12, but ended up being postponed.
The date is a week from Saturday on Aug. 9. Registration is at 8 a.m. and the event will run until 11 a.m. at McCanna Park. Preregistration for the event is $30, and registration can be done online at www.restoration5k.com.
Hoffman said that TLC has benefited from a generous community that includes many fundraisers done by local youth. Local youth also designed the new logo.
“The young people in our community have an amazing outreach,” she said.
