Racine County Sheriff’s deputies arrested an 18-year-old Waterford man on the roof of Woodfield Elementary School Sept. 14, and the teenager has since been charged with three felonies and a misdemeanor.

Daniel Miskelley told deputies he was on the roof to retrieve a ball, according to a press release issued by the Sheriff’s Office.

However, during their investigation, deputies discovered Miskelley had unloaded firearms in the trunk of his car, which was parked on school property.

Sheriff’s officials said there was nothing to indicate students or staff were in danger and school opened on schedule the next day. School officials were kept informed about the incident as it unfolded, the release said.

Miskelley was taken to the Racine County Jail, and was eventually charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and three felony counts of possession of a firearm on school property. His initial court appearance was Sept. 16, and he met his $2,500 cash bond.

Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling said that the investigation is ongoing. He said there were three weapons in the car, and added that Miskelley was extremely cooperative, allowing the deputies to search the vehicle and search his phone.

“This is a very serious investigation,” Schmaling said. “We have to rely on evidence and statements he has made.”

Schmaling did say he found the circumstances – going onto the roof of a school while it was dark to retrieve a ball – suspicious.

“It’s unsettling as a parent, and it’s very concerning to me as a sheriff,” he added. “We’re going through enormous steps to ensure we conduct a thorough investigation.”
