For many people, the arrival of a child is a joyous time.
But often for the young women at Life Choices in Burlington, there’s a fair amount of stress coming from an unexpected pregnancy and being a single parent to boot.
Scott Herrmann and Thrivent Financial are partnering to help Life Choices help out these young women, starting with a community baby shower Tuesday, March 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the group’s home – 340 North Pine Street, Ste. 1.
The baby shower’s goal is to provide necessary items for 25 new mothers, and will also serve as an open house for the program. Life Choices is committed to helping young women be able to keep their children.
Herrmann said Monday that Thrivent is committed to helping Life Choices, especially in light of a new program that is helping young women cope with the emotional and financial changes of being a new mother.
“It’s a tremendous blessing to these girls, to be able to adjust and learn how to adapt to their new life,” Herrmann said.
On the wish list for the shower are: bath and bedding items, children’s and infant Tylenol or Motrin, newborn to 3T clothing, shoes sized newborn to size 6, sip cups, bottles, pacifiers, toddler eating utensils, bottle brushes, bottle drying racks, Gerber formula, snacks, juices, diaper bags, storage containers, nursing items, learning toys, safety locks, infant hangers, sunscreen, diapers in size newborn to size 6, Pull-ups and Little Swimmers and wipes.
“We’re just looking to help strengthen this program through the baby shower,” Herrmann explained.
Thrivent’s new action team is involved as well. A group that includes Chuck Krause, Kristen Lafranzo and Joyce Nilles of Thrivent and Rachel Herrmann, will be supporting two community fundraisers a year.
Thrivent helps at the corporate level by providing seed money for the fundraising.
Cash donations for the baby shower are also being accepted. During the open house, there will be tours of the facility, information tables, food and a silent auction. All proceeds will go to help new mothers.
