A two-vehicle car crash on Highway 75 Sunday resulted in the death of one of the drivers.
According to a press release from the Racine County Sheriff’s department, the Racine County Communications Center received a 911 call for a crash on 75 just south of Highway A in the Town of Kansasville. The caller also reported that the driver of a truck was stuck inside that vehicle, which was on fire.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene, but by the time they arrived, the vehicle was totally engulfed. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. No name are being released pending notification of family.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the driver of a Ford Escape fell asleep behind the wheel, and drifted into the southbound lane, hitting the Chevy pickup truck. The truck driver tried to avoid the accident, but was still struck. The collision apparently forced him into a ditch, where he became trapped. The vehicle then caught fire.
Kansasville Fire responded and extinguished the fire, and also provided medical assistance to the driver and passenger of the Ford Escape. It appeared to investigators that all involved were wearing seatbelts. It is not known if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
