The race for the Burlington Area School District School Board may be going to recount.
Adding in the Walworth County results, Kevin Bird appeared to have the most votes with 1,942, followed by Phil Ketterhagen with 1,851 votes and Barry Schmaling with 1,836. With two spots available, Ketterhagen appears to have a 15-vote margin of victory.
However, absentee ballots can be counted through Friday, and the Burlington Area School District will conduct its canvas of the votes Monday. BASD Superintendent Peter Smet said Wednesday that a recount would likely need to be requested by a candidate, and Schmaling said that he wasn’t sure he would ask for one. However, Schmaling also felt that an automatic recount may be triggered because of the close margin.
Jim Berndt was fourth with 649. A write-in candidate – presumably Roger Koldeway, who was a registered right in – picked up 596 votes.
Update, 10:35 p.m. – The circuit court race for Branch 6 in Racine County is tight. With a number of precincts still to report, David Paulson has a narrow lead over Tricia Hanson, 9,682 to 9,124.
Update, 10;20 p.m. – Results from Racine County show a very tight race for Burlington Area School District. Write-in votes are at 449 (likely for Roger Koldeway). Added with the Walworth County results, Ketterhagen and Bird would take the two seats as of now.

There are five total precincts in Walworth County for School Board, and all five have reported.
As of 9:25 p.m., no election results for the area had been posted on the Racine County Election website. We will keep you updated throughout the evening.
